Catalog Note:
An article by Sharon S. Darling in the Journal of the American Art Pottery Association (Winter 2012), entitled “‘The Birth of Venus’ Tiles: a Reattribution”, discusses Simone’s work for Northwestern Terra Cotta Corporation during his time in Chicago between 1933 and 1939 and the sale of Simone’s estate by his stepdaughter in 2005 at auction in Indianapolis. A copy of the Darling article accompanies this lot.
